Susan M. Bieri RDH Memorial Scholarship

“Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant.” – Robert Louis Stevenson

After graduating with honors from St. Michael Catholic high school in June, 1965, Susan enrolled for classes at the newly opened Highland Lakes campus and was one of 3860 students to attend that first semester. During this time Susan worked as a dental assistant. On October 1st, 1966, she married Ronald, her high school sweetheart. They lived together in Rhode Island while he was in the US Navy Seabees through 1967. After Ronald’s discharge, the couple lived in Waterford and raised their family. They were married for nearly 56 years until her death on August 23rd, 2022.
Susan always dreamt of being in the dental profession and she began her prerequisite courses in 1977. She was accepted into the dental hygiene program at the Highland Lakes campus while balancing motherhood to four young children including twins and a 5 year old son who attended the play center on campus. After some hard work, Susan completed the dental hygiene program with high grades. She passed her board exams in the 90th percentile. Remaining employed in her profession as a RDH for 31 years, Susan was always dedicated to providing the best care possible for each of her patients.
We are proud to offer the Susan M. Bieri RDH Memorial Scholarship in her honor. We hope her diligence and dedication to her profession will live on and inspire future generations of dental hygienists who will graduate from Oakland Community College.
