Sgt. James S. Collins, Jr. memorial (by his family and friends)

Sgt. James S. Collins was killed in Kirkuk, Iraq on August 28, 2007.

Jim was in the Marine Corp for six years serving at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and all over the world on the aircraft carriers USS Nassau and USS Theodore Roosevelt. After leaving the Marines, Jim earned a Criminal Justice degree from Lake Superior State University and attended the OCC Oakland Police Academy. After his graduation from the Academy in December 2000, the call of the military was too strong to resist and he became a full time Army reservist.

Jim was serving with the 303rd Military Police Unit out of Jackson, MI at the time of his death. In 2012, to mark the 5th anniversary of his death, his family chose to honor his memory with a scholarship. His parents, Jim, and Marilyn, share, “Because Jim was so proud to serving in an MP unit, we feel he would have loved knowing that his name will be on a scholarship that will help young men and women serve their communities as CJ or police professionals.”
