Roscoe Dann Family

Roscoe Dann was a Charter Member of Oakland Community College, joining the faculty in the fall of 1965. Roscoe taught Health and Physical Education at the Auburn Hills Campus for two years.

In the fall of 1967 when Orchard Ridge opened, he transferred to that campus and remained there for 20 years teaching Health and Physical Education and coaching Golf. Roscoe spent three of those years in administration as Chairman of the Life and Health Sciences Division and as Assistant Dean of Students coordinating Student Activities. In the early 1980s he developed an interest in Computer Science and became qualified to teach introductory courses in that department.

Roscoe transferred to the Royal Oak Campus in the fall of 1987 and continued teaching Health and Physical Education as well as a few courses in the Computer Sciences Curriculum. He retired from Oakland Community College in 1995.

Roscoe and his wife Bonnie raised three daughters. Wendi and her husband own a small business in Schwartz Creek; Elizabeth is the principal of St. Roberts School in Ada; and Sherry is a professor of Kinesiology and Exercise Science at Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids.

In October of 1995 Roscoe’s wife Bonnie died and two years later in November of 1997 he married Janet Hemmen. Janet was employed at Oakland Community College for fifteen years and in February 1998 retired from her job as Administrative Assistant to the President of the Royal Oak Campus.

Roscoe enjoyed his work at Oakland Community College and remembers his own journey through college as financially challenging. He wanted to give something back to Oakland Community College and the students. Roscoe and Janet established “The Roscoe Dann Family Scholarship” in 1998 in honor of his family. Currently Roscoe and Janet spend winters in Florida and summers at their home in White Lake Township.
