Noordhoorn Family
Christian Noordhoorn, an emeritus faculty member after retiring as a charter faculty member from the Highland Lakes Campus. Chris is considered a “renaissance man” by his peers at the college, having taught everything from English Literature and Art Appreciation to Keyboarding. During his tenure at OCC, Chris served in numerous leadership positions, including department chair and faculty liaison to the OCC Foundation. The joy he derived from teaching is reflected in the variety of the classes he taught and the fact that his classes were extremely popular, always filling quickly. “I am so incredibly grateful to OCC for giving me the opportunities I had,” says Chris. “This scholarship is the least I can do.”
Nedra Noordhoorn, was a full-time speech pathologist and also an adjunct faculty member at OCC, once winning the Highland Lakes’ Outstanding Adjunct award.
Both of their children attended OCC and received meaningful preparation for their eventual careers. In addition, their son-in-law attended OCC and was the student speaker at his graduation in 1986.
Mr. Noordhoorn stated it simply “OCC is and continues to be part of the very warp and woof of the Noordhoorn family fabric.”
