Jon D. Misner Memorial Scholarship (by family and friends)

Jon was a loving son and brother; full of life with many friends and life experiences. It’s been said he was a meticulous employee and dedicated firefighter, with the ability to bring co-workers together with his leadership qualities.

After high school graduation, Jon began taking classes at Oakland Community College in order to achieve a degree in another academic discipline. After a period of time, he decided he wanted to pursue a career a firefighting: his original choice after graduation from high school.

Our family was thrilled with his choice, and proudly attended his graduation from the CREST Academy in May 2010. After graduation from the Academy, Jon took a paid-on-call position with the Farmington Hills Fire Department. He was committed to his position and was on his way to obtaining his paramedic certification, with the hope of acquiring a full time position with the city of Farmington Hills.

Jon passed away suddenly in June 2014 at the young age of 32. Our family is devastated over the tragic loss of Jon, but we want to honor Jon’s life and his commitment to public service by awarding a scholarship to a deserving individual who, like Jon, has found their path in this very honorable career.

We hope to experience the joy of seeing someone, much like Jon, succeed and go on to contribute to the well-being of others by becoming a firefighter; a career highly esteemed by our family.
