Dr. Kaltheen Lorencz

Mr. and Mrs. Lorencz began their lives in Hungary and immigrated to the United States as young children arriving with many others on Ellis Island. They met in their teens and married, settling in Wyandotte, Michigan. My father worked at Wyandotte Chemical Corporation and my mother ran their market store. In 1939 they left the city and moved to a farm in the Thumb of Michigan raising dairy cows and eventually transitioned to cash crops. They raised 9 children over a married life that exceeded 60 years and had 24 grandchildren. Their children were an integral part of work on the farm and each continued their education upon graduation from high school. They enjoyed many Sundays when grandchildren came to visit and participated in softball games, crochet, bad mitten, and cards. They were the frequent hosts for friends and family from the city who made annual visits that so many enjoyed and looked forward to.
