Dr. Kathleen J. Lorencz

Dr. Kathleen Lorencz was a professor in business for 41 years at Oakland Community College. She earned a Bachelor Degree at Michigan State University, a Master Degree and PhD at Wayne State University. Preparing students for a world of work was her primary mission at the College during which students developed a solid foundation in the functional areas of business. In the early days of her career she enjoyed working as the advisor to the Office Education Association during which a major fund raising effort was a 24-hour Rock-a-thon to raise funds for Special Olympics along with many opportunities for students to develop leadership skills and compete at state and national competitive events. Contributions to the College over the years included the development of two new applied associate degrees and major course and program revisions. Major roles outside the classroom included serving as department chair, campus academic chair, senate campus representative to the College Academic Senate and College Curriculum Committees, and member of the Global Education Committee. As a member of the Global Education Committee, she enjoyed hosting in her home over 20 faculty members visiting from Oaxaca over several years.
On a personal level, she is the youngest of a family of nine. She was raised on a farm in a small town in the Thumb of Michigan. Being a part of a large family has been the best experience one could ever hope for in life.
