Joel David Cohen memorial (family and friends)

Joel Cohen was the first faculty member to begin work at OCC, although not, as he was always quick to point out, the first hired.

Back in 1965, the new college readily explored innovative educational concepts, with one such being computer-assisted instruction. Newly-minted MBA in hand, Joel early on was involved in the CAI project. Back then, university computer science was housed and taught within the business school. He worked first at the “hospital” (now known as Highland Lakes) and later at the repurposed missile site at Auburn Hills, where he taught the gamut of math offerings until his retirement in 1993.

In his “aftermath” life, Joel was a long-time member of the National Ski Patrol, a prize-winning amateur photographer, and a purebred dog exhibitor.
